Are We Moving Foward?

 Sankofa is an Akan word that means, "We must go back and reclaim our past so we can move forward; so we understand why and how we came to be who we are today."

Sadly,most african americans are uneducated about black history, including the terms  used to degrade, manipulate,and to keep our people and their minds in bondage.

 Yea this is our history ,but now and days we have artist that are on the radio for every culture to hear  say things like this:

Perhaps the words BITCH and NIGGA are now neither positive or negative. They are just potent and it depends on how the are used and by whom?

This is coming from a man who is looked up to by many because of his career in music,he has the ability to influence, yet even he himself uses the word nigga in his rhymes. By using this derogatory word so freely in his music,is the potency negative or positive to the very people he represents?? EVEN IF WE DONT SEE IT NEGATIVELY,we must ask ourselves do only black people listen to his music? Im 100% sure thats not true ...so is his influence ,as well as many other artist, influencing other races as well? Can we blame them for becoming so comfortable using nigga so freely as we do?

There is no gray area in this, either its ok or its not ...no more excuses as if the people in our history, that fought for our freedom from slavery ,will be proud to hear us use it  and  define our ignorance as "ok" because we are black.  I honestly think we as a black community needs to deeply  reeducate ourselves,then decide how to respond..

We have to realize as  individuals in our black community.. title, or no title, the origin of the word nigga was used to hurt and keep our minds in bondage, to make our ancestors believe that title the white slave owners branded us with is true... 

Sadly we use it daily amongst our own brothers and sisters ...are we to blame for no growth in our own community?   

  So heres a few questions;

• Are we only looking back ignorantly to our history ,but NOT FOWARD as a culture by continually using the word "nigga"
•  Is our usage of the word beneifical to us as a whole or does it keep our mind in a continual  marking time?
• Is  using that  word  our biggest double standard to ourselves and other races?
• Do we really understand the potency of this word ? DO WE REALLY consider ourselves educated on it ?

LETS EVOLVE INTO THE SANKOFA BIRD ;LETS LOOK BACK AND MOVE FOWARD! Foward in our understanding ...in our history,...in our own perspectives of ourselves...for today children  for tomorrows eternity!
